UCLM will teach a groundbreaking MA in Masculinity Studies

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) will be at the forefront of the analysis of masculinities in Spain with the opening of a new training program focused on this area of gender studies. Starting next October, the university will offer a Master's Degree in Masculinities Studies, a pioneering degree that focuses on men in order to complete the perspective of analysis of gender studies, which have mostly focused on women.

Its promoters recall that "most universities already have undergraduate and graduate programs in Women's Studies and/or Gender Studies. However, the historical origins and political sensitivities of these programs have meant that most gender studies (faculty, students and researchers) have been carried out by women and about women". Faced with this reality, the new master's degree assumes the growing interest in masculinity studies in the scientific community dedicated to this field.

Directed by UCLM professor José María Armengol, the curriculum includes subjects that address issues such as gender violence, communication, advertising, culture and fatherhood from the perspective of masculinities. The program, which will be taught online, is organised in a total of eighty-eight credits, sixty of which are compulsory.

The pre-registration period will be open from July 18 to September 24, while enrollment can be formalised between September 27 and October 1. The course, which initially offers fifty places, will run from October 4, 2021 to May 27, 2022.

GUSEGG Research Hub to be held on July 21-22-23 2020

The Graz International Summer School Seggau (GUSEGG) 2020 had to be postponed to summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 regulations.

Since the situation in Austria has improved, we decided to hold a local GUSEGG event at Schloss Seggau, the GUSEGG Research Hub. In the course of 3 days, 25 participants including Uni Graz students, professors, and lecturers, will attend lectures and talks and engage in follow-up discussions. Of course, we would love to have a broader audience participate in this event - at least virtually. This is why we will broadcast the lectures, talks, and part of the discussions via Zoom and everyone is invited to join us! This format gives you the possibility to also actively get involved in the discussions.

Attached please find the program for the GUSEGG Research Hub. If you are interested in following Hub 1, 2 or 4 (Hub 3 is a hands-on workshop unfortunately not suited for online broadcasting), please express your interest by writing to This email address is being protected from spambots.
